I was a pretty lucky child growing up about 25 minutes from Geauga Lake Amusement Park as well as Sea World. So when both closed down it was almost as though we had lost a family member. We spend our summers rididng rides or watching Shamu so when I found out that they were opening up the old Geauga Lake as an outdoor water park I was pretty excited to be able to pass on the Geauga Lake tradition to my children. With that being said despite our closeness to the park we never found the time to visit. The kids always were too young or the summer went by too quickly so I was super excited when Cedar Faire contacted me to do a review of the Wildwater Kingdom.
Whenever you are doing a review of an outdoor recreation you are a slave to the weather and unfortunatley on the day we were hit with really poor weather. The morning was washed out with thunderstorms so we were unable to really visit the waterpark until the late afternoon. Once the weather cooperated we had such a great time! The kids spent a large amount of time in the Family Splash landing area and the Wave Pool! The Wave pool brought so many childhood memories back! The kids were able to really take off and run in the splash landing area while hubby and I were able to relax poolside! It's so nice to not have to be with them at all times!
My favorite of the waterpark was the Wave! Not just because it brought back so much of my childhood but because who doesn't love playing in waves?? My kids would have stayed for hours just floating on the waves! We have been to a lot of indoor/ outdoor waterparks with wave pools but this one by far is the best! I wish I would have taken a picture of this part of the park but because of the depth of the pool our cameras were tucked away in our bags.
Overall we had a great time! I was a little taken back by the daily ticket prices but the season passes are well worth the price. I would definitely recommend this park to those who have children of all ages in fact it's the perfect place for the family that have kids spaced out in ages. No one will be bored at any age. Oh and I forgot to mention that people are not the only fan of Wildwater Kingdom... ducks find it quite appealing as you can see from the pictures!
Take some time to check out Wildwater Kingdom on Facebook and Twitter!!
I have to say I live a pretty great life! My kids have gotten to see some of the best places because of my site and this last trip was no exception. My family is obsessed with indoor water parks in fact we have been to 6 of them in the last few years and they never seem to disappoint but we never get the full package until NOW! This past weekend we were able to spend a fun filled night at CASTAWAY BAYin Sandusky, Ohio and I have to say this place is the FULL PACKAGE!!
From experience most indoor water parks cater to either small children or large children and really no mix of in between. Being a mom of two little girls that are ages 6 and 8 with the 6 year old being very very tiny for her age but with a state of mind of an older child it is hard for her to feel included in things because of her size. Granted even here she was unable to ride on the big slides but she didn't seem to disappointed when she had so much other things to do. That was nice! From the kiddie area to the wave pool there was so much for her to do.
Let me start out by saying that the staff at Castaway Bay was the nicest by far at any water park. The lifeguards were attentive and understanding. The front desk was always available for questions and even the snack bar attendants were super welcoming. You don't normally see this at indoor water parks in fact it is usually the opposite with a lot of teenage angst. The whole vibe of the place was so fun!
Our room was just the right size with all the best amenities. We had a microwave, two queen size beds, a refrigerator and television. The bathroom was equipped with bath and body works shampoo and conditioner which was by far my favorite amenity in fact I went out and bought some for myself. The beds were comfortable too which never happens at a hotel!!
So I am sure you are really interested in knowing what is offered in the water park itself- well let me tell you- loads and loads of fun! The wave pool is by far my FAVORITE attraction. It is fun for EVERYONE! My only recommendation if you are like me and wear glasses to make sure they are off or unable to fall off because my glasses got thrown off my face by one of the waves! Thank goodness my husband found them or it would have been a much different weekend! My children loved the area that I called the obstacle course because it was filled with small slides, water buckets, and stairs and other obstacles. They spent hours just running around and getting drenched by the huge bucket that poured down every 10 minutes or so!
Even my husband had a great time riding the big slides with my oldest daughter. This was just a complete trip for us where little drama was found. No temper tantrums- no kids running unsupervised thanks to the wonderful staff and no injuries. Just an overall perfect time. Even Snoopy and Lucy visited us which made the girls so happy!
Check out Castaway Bay on Facebook and Twitter! It's the perfect place to stay just minutes away from Cedar Point and other attractions.
This is my third year being invited to come out to Halloweekends at Cedar Point and each year the park becomes for and more festive! Fall is my favorite time of the year when the weather starts to get a little cooler, the trees begin changing colors, and their is this crispness and eeriness in the air. This year, just like last, we made Halloweekends a family event with our kids and our nieces and nephews who ranged in age from 1 to 8 and so glad that we did! The fun and excitement on their faces at every turn was magical! Watching the Sleeping Troll wake up has always been a favorite of my 6 year old daughter and it's so hard to get her away from him. This is him below:
The other highlight for my family (of course other than the rides) is the Trick or Treat in Kiddie Kingdom! Oh my goodness so much fun for all. Each child gets a card with 8 different locations on it and at each location they get the card stamped and get a little treat! This year they got a few simple pieces of candy, slinky, a candy corn shaped cup, and bubbles. They had so much fun meeting all the characters at each stop as well. Snoopy and the other peanuts gang walk around and greet your little one while they trick or treat! So awesome! This is what the card looks like:
The best part of Halloweekends though hands down is the live entertainment that they provide. Each year we get more and more excited for the Skeleton Crew! Acrobatics and fire twirling at it's finest. My youngest is a tumbler and a hula hooper so she gets so excited each year to see her favorite girls doing acrobatics and spinning around in extra large hula hoop! The show is fun and appropriate for all ages. The make up is a little scary for some but if you stand far enough back you wouldn't even notice but my kids like to be right up front! As you can see from the pictures below it is a fun time. I get butterflies in my stomach at each throw and toss so afraid they aren't going to plant their landing or get caught- that must be the mom in me! Some of the below pictures are compliments of Cedar Point!
This year we did attempt to have the older kids try some of the grown up attractions but as we learned last year they just weren't ready for that much scariness! My oldest refused to go anywhere near the haunted attractions but my youngest (the 6 year old) was all about it... well until we actually got in one and then her tough facade was replaced with ear bleeding screeching screams and tears. Luckily we were only 15 steps into one of the attractions. So we didn't get to share in the adult fun this year like we were hoping but after the long day we had of riding a bunch of rides, getting filled up on caramel apples, pumpkin cookies, and hot cider we were happy to head back to the hotel and get some sleep before the trip home the next day!
Halloweekends run until November 1st with 5 haunted house attractions, 6 outdoor scare zones, special events like Gypsy fortune telling, Midnight syndicate, Skeleton Crew, and now with Fright Lane with a Skeleton Key that unlocks special rooms. There is so much to do you might as well stay for the full weekend! You can visit their webpage and purchase tickets here. Take some time to like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
This past weekend my family and I had the opportunity to visit Cedar Point over the July 4th weekend! We have been to Cedar Point several times but never over a holiday weekend and I have to admit that Cedar Point did not disappoint! From Pie Eating Contests to Skydivers to a Firework Display that rivals Disney World there was not a dull moment! My family did things a bit different this year thinking that lines would be long and knowing that we didn't want to spend our day in lines for rides that we have already enjoyed over the years we decided to take a laid back approach to the day. We carved out time to enjoy the beach by The Breakers Hotel and enjoy a picnic near the front entrance as we people watched. I spoke to people as we waited in line to ride the rides and met people from as far away as Great Britain, Florida, and a couple that lived about 15 minutes from my childhood home and all of them with the same opinion that Cedar Point rocks! The park was actually less than crowded during the morniing hours but began getting busier and busier as the day went on which gave us time to ride some of our favorite rides before taking a break on the beach for a few hours. Just as I took on a different approach during our visit I am going to do the same for this review and review only the three new things I experienced this weekend.
It's usually a hit or miss with Lake Erie Beaches. I lived on Lake Erie for about 3 years and spent my summers swimming in pebbled waters which are not good on your feet! The waters can be clear or dirty, safe or not safe to swim, rocky or sandy, or crowded or dead so you never really know what you are getting yourself into. You can tell that Cedar Point takes pride in their beach and keeping it clean. The sandy beaches were a nice change for Lake Erie and you could tell that they spend good money with the upkeep of the area. They have small sections of the beach roped off for you to swim which prevents people from scattering too far across the beach to interfer with the other activities like parasailing or jet ski both of which you can do at additional cost. They offer cabanna chairs and even wooden two seaters with attached umbrellas for you to use free of charge. They have life guards on duty and supervisors walking the beach which makes you feel so safe. The water was a little shallow for my liking but my kids didn't complain as they were all able to play together without anyone being left out due to being "too small". My oldest daughter had fun searching for sea shells and building sand castles while the other two investigated the bottom of Lake Erie. We spent a few hours just relaxing at the beach which was a welcome change to the hustle and bustle of our normal day at Cedar Point. I recommend bringing your swimsuit and taking advantage of this less known attraction at Cedar Point. It's a win for the parents and the kids don't complain either. Although, we did not participate in these activities but you can at a minimal cost to parasail or rent a jet ski or even charter boats for fishing or cruisin'! Love it!
The Pipe Scream
One of the new ride at Cedar Point this year is the Pipe Scream and all I have to say is hands down this is my favorite ride to date there. I am not huge on roller coasters because I have an average fear of heights but I love the feeling you get from coming down a hill or getting twisted all up in loops and curves. This ride makes you feel like you are on a roller coaster conveniently located closer tot he ground. My six year old loves Cedar point and she is a junkie for anything and everything fast. She has no fear (that's okay Mommy has enough for the both of us) so she gets pretty depressed when she is unable to ride the big kid rides like her older sister. This ride makes her feel ilke she is actually riding a roller coaster. Our first experience was actually very scary as we placed Addison on the end of the row as we had no direction not to put her there. When the ride began I instantly could feel Addison sliding out of her seat. Addison is very petitie in fact there was a good foot of room between her and the bar which left her being able to slide out of the ride. So instead of panicking too much I just used my arm as a seat belt and kept her in the seat despite her attempts at trying to push my arm away. She had an awesome time as the ride slides you up the hill and turns you around and you brace yourself for the downward trip- back and forth gaining speed! So much fun! The second time we rode the ride later in the day the girl who was manning the front gate of the ride expressed to us that she needs to be on the inside to ride this ride. So just in case you don't get directions and you have a small child make sure they are in the inside between two adults even then I still used my arm to brace her back even though I think she would have been fine without it. Everyone working the ride was so nice and pleasant- hands down this year group of workers really seem to enjoy their jobs.
After a long day it was convenient to be able to head to the car and relax knowing the fireworks were going to be happening right above our heads. By the time 10:00pm rolled around all three of our kiddos were ready for bed but they were also wanting to watch the fireworks so they became a little antsy when they realized that there were other things happening before the fireworks display. My husband and I were a bit confused as were many of the families by us of what exactly we were supposed to be watching as a plane flew above Cedar Point. I think that this was one of those things that looked better on paper than it actually did in the sky. For those of us on the ground below it just looked like a plane flying overhead playing with their lights and it seemed to go on forever. At one point there were sparklers coming from the plane which made us hopeful that somethign mroe would be happening but unfortuantely there wasn't. I don't know if maybe there was supposed to be colored smoke coming from the plane that just didn't work with the night sky or if that was the intention of the show but either way it was not something that the families around me including my family enjoyed. The second part of the celebration had three men night skydiving but it was totally missed because they either jumped before they were supposed to or the monologue that went with it was played too late. The jumpers were already on the ground before the announcement happened which made us confused if we were missing something great somewhere else. You can tell that there was alot of preperation that went into the evenings events but I think if they would have just stuck with the fireworks that it would have been epic! The fireworks were UNBELIEVABLE! The fire works were consistant and beautiful for about a 25 minutes span. There were not just one grand finale but huge finale's after each songs with dozens of fireworks lighting up the night sky! Cedar Point spared no expense at making sure we got the display of a lifetime. I had not seen a display like this since visiting Disney World and that says a lot!

My family and I had the privilege to attend Cedar Points annual Mommy Blogger Event this past weekend and what fun we had! I have been invited the past few years to come and play and review the park but this was the first year where I actually decided to participate in the fun! I am not huge on heights in fact I am terrified of them but this year I decided if my 7 year old can ride these rides so can I!
There honestly is nothing that I don't love about Cedar Point! They have something for everyone and I mean EVERYONE! This year I brought along my Husband, my father in law and my two kiddos (5 & 7) and to put all of this into perspective my five year old is closer in size to a 3 year old and my 7 year old is 54" exactly so I was very concerned that there was going to be an issue on someone being "left out" this year but once again that was not the case!
We arrived on Saturday Morning to check into our hotel and get our park tickets. Check in is not until 4pm but Cedar Point offers an amazing perk which is if your room is not ready when you come they will hold your luggage for you until your room is ready. We arrived at the park a little after noon and we were welcomed with smiles and happy hellos! The line to check in was quick~ I hate to stand in line especially with two excited kids that only have one thing on their mind and that is riding rides NOT standing in long lines! Granted we did have a little problem with checking in because they could not find our reservation which started to become a nightmare until my husband suggested an alternative spelling to our last name (we have A VERY DIFFICULT last name!!) Our reservations were found but then we had a slight issue with our tickets. Those as well could not be found. All in all we spent over an hour tracking down our tickets only to be sent back to our hotel to have them reissue us tickets. In all my years of going to Cedar Point I honestly have never had any issues so this was highly forgivable considering we were there for an event and it was one week after opening weekend that the staff wasn't as trained as they normally are.
Our first stop once we got the tickets was of course to Camp Snoopy! There are so many great rides for both kids in Camp Snoopy! Their favorite is of course the Woodstock Express as well as the Snoopy Bounce House. Which if you ever just need a break and want to sit down I recommend heading to the Snoopy Bounce House and let the kids go! The kids also loved to ride the Jr. Gemini but we had some issues on Sunday with the operators deciding to take an impromptu break for over 20 minutes which caused a lot of parents to become irritated and a lot of confused children who were upset that we were pulling them from the ride because we couldn't wait any longer. We waited it out but found out that the issue was one of the operators wanted to change her shoes?!? REALLY... I was very disappointed to find this out.
Hands down the ride we rode the most out of was the TILT A WHIRL and the MONSTER! To the point of heading back to our hotel sick as a dog from spinning so much! The lines were short and everyone was so happy to be there including the workers!! I love being around people with great enthusiasm it rubs off on others and it gets them excited to be there! We stayed until the park closed and headed back to our room at Hotel Breakers. This is my favorite part of the stay~ not having to drive home!! Cedar Point offers numerous places to stay right at the park or nearby including CAMPING!! LOVE IT! The views are fabulous too butted up right on the beaches of Lake Erie! There is nothing like starting out your morning on the terrace with a cup of coffee watching the waves crash in!
Sunday we stayed for one more day of play but did have to leave early due to a family emergency. We woke up early to take advantage of the early entry for hotel guests. Unfortunately, we had issues with our tickets again so we had to head back to the hotel to get it situated which took up most of our early entry. This was a major bummer for my husband who always uses this time to ride the rides he couldn't get on the day before because of extreme lines. Once we got the ticket problem situated we had just enough time to head to the new and awesome ride THE GATEKEEPER. My husband rode this one alone but loved it!! He couldn't believe how smooth of a ride it was! Almost too smooth because it makes you relax and then boom instant fright! He wished he had more times riding it but the line was very long but well worth the wait!
We had such a great time at Cedar Point that we are already talking about going back again and again this summer! Earlier I told you how I managed to ride a few roller coasters this year myself so drum roll please *~*~*~* I rode the Cork Screw, the Gemini, the Maverick, the Mine Ride and even road on the Ferris Wheel which scared the living life out of me! *~*~*~* My family couldn't be more proud of me!!
If you and your family want to head to the Point watch for a giveaway we will be having in July! We were just notified that Cedar Point is offering free admittance to their park for miltary members the weekend of July 4th.
Don't forget to become a fan of Cedar Point on Facebook and Twitter!
First of all let me come out say that I LOVE HALLOWEEN! It is hands down my favorite holiday and I love everything about the holiday! So when I was asked to go to Cedar Point and review the number one Halloween Attraction in the county I of course did not hesitate! When we arrived at Cedar Point we were able to check right into our hotel right at Cedar Point- Hotel Breakers. Which is conveniently located right by the Magnum Roller Coaster and less than a two minute walk from the actual park! The hotel was decorated from top to bottom with Halloween decorations including a real live coffin at the front desk to a large spider overseeing the sitting room, and the best is the ceiling of bats!!! The hotel kept it family friendly but very very festive!
During the day we had to take a few breaks because of the weather preventing them from running the rides but that gave us extra time to really enjoy the other things the park offers that we never really get to take advantage of! I cannot say it enough about how wonderful the customer service is at Cedar Point! There was always a smiling face at all the shops or someone wiling to help if you had a question! Once the weather broke it was time for the Halloween fun to begin and I couldn't have been more excited! I am not huge on Roller Coaster because of my fear of heights so I was ready for the scarefest that awaited me! On a side note they did talk me into riding the Magnum and I was so terrified that my husband and brother found it appropriate to do imitations of what I looked like on the ride and in the pictures that they took. My husband portrayal is perfect!
I cannot say enough about the Halloweekend Attractions... from the monster parade to the actual attractions it was nonstop fun and excitement. We weren't able to find time for Eden Musse (which I was so bummed about but we just couldn't figure out where it was at.. we found it the next day right where the map said it was) or the CornStalkers as it had an hour and half wait time. There are 10 attractions at Cedar Point this year! From the 4 Haunted Houses: Club Blood- which is a vampire nightclub atmosphere and pretty scary!! Eerie Estates- which was my favorite of all the attractions and probably the scariest! Eternity Infirmary which wasn't the scariest but probably the best make up effects I've seen on characters in a long time and the last one EDEN MUSSE- which is a wax museaum with some of the characters coming to life! On the walk to these awesome houses are the outside attractions which are just scary and fun at the same time. The roads are lined with monsters jumping out from every corner... they follow you without you knowing.. they jump down from rocks and trees... they sing you lullabies...and they scare the living daylights out of you! There are six different "Scare Zones" throughout the park which include my favorite Cut Throat Cove, Blood on the Bayou, CarnEvil (If you are afraid of clowns watch out for this one!!!), Fear Faire (Midevil scariness), Screamworks, and CornStalkers. There literally is not a moment that goes by where you aren't running into another attraction! Not to mention that while this is going on the RIDES ARE STILL A ROLLING!
This was an adult weekend so we did not have any kids to take advantage of the kiddie stuff but I can say from what I saw there was plenty for the little ones to do as well! Check out the 10 family fun attractions HERE including an acrobatic cirque chow by the Skeleton Crew or get your fortune read by the fortune teller!! AMAZING!!
Hurry and get your tickets now because the season is coming to an end! If you go now and purchase tickets on line you can save $10!! Or if you want to try to win a family four pack of tickets head HERE (Contest ends 9/30/2012)! Halloweekends is a MUST for anyone who loves Halloween!!
