I have a 7 year old and a 5 year old which makes game nights not always the most entertaining night for our family. My oldest become impatient with her younger sister and the youngest gets bored very quickly especially if she is losing (which is often) and dad and I get to be referees more than participants. Needless to say, we are always keeping our eye out for games that deal with less skill to benefit our youngest daughter and any game that lacks skill needs to give more in other areas such as FUN to keep my older daughter attention. Luckily, the adults have come comfortable with the terms "we do it for the kids not for us" and "grin and deal with it".
Honestly, when SimplyFun contacted me to do a product review of their games Walk the Dogs and one of their newest game Kilter, I just assumed it would be one more game to rotate in on game night with the same results. I was pretty excited to find this not to be the case! We played Walk the Dogs first and the purpose of the game is to collect as many dogs as you can without the dog catcher catching you. The game is perfect for little kids and big kids because it's a simple enough concept but at the same time can become strategical for older kids and adults . The game lasts about 35 minutes but each player was anxious to play again. My husband and I had a great time for not winning one game! My kids won both games we played the first night while my oldest became the new reigning champ the last time we played. I will knock them off their pedestal and reign victorious next time we play though!!
A few nights later we began to play Kilter. Kilter is a game of balance and strategy. Literally... You have to attempt to balance pieces on an unbalanced plank. It's fun and exciting but my youngest kept moving the table which caused the planks to fall. This was a fun game and my husband and I played it a few other times and had a blast!!
After playing this games I took a peak at even more fun games that they have on the SimplyFun Site and I can't wait to try some of the other ones! SimplyFun reminds us that through play we can connect with our children as well as teach our children! It's a great lesson to be learned and taught!
