I have a 7 year old and a 5 year old who have yet to learn to tie their shoes. It's a little frustrating for me because my 7 year old is in the first grade and should know by now how to tie her shoes. She can add, subtract, read a book, and count to a million but she can't do what I feel is one of the easiest of tasks~ tying her shoes. We have tried everything from the "bunny ear song" to having her watch tutorials on Youtube.com with very little success. We recently even purchased a shoe shaped book to help with the process which only made us very aware that we need to go in an alternative direction and that is when I came across LOOPEEZ!!
I have to be honest, when I first opened up our Loopeez, I couldn't figure out how this would help my child learn to tie her shoe because the device stays on the shoe. Then I realized HOW it works and it all came together. We received two packages of Loopeez and two pair of two-toned laces for both my girls. We had one issue with my youngest daughter because her shoes were VELCRO so we ended up heading out to the store to buy her lace up shoes (which made it even more exciting for her!). I helped with getting the Loopeez on and they were on their own really from there. My oldest daughter has worn them for a full week to school and has given me nothing but positive reviews of the product. Before Loopeez she would go to school I would end up TRIPLE knotting her Hello Kitty shoes because of how often they came untied. Now, if they come untied she is able to do it quickly and easier. The funny thing is she has her friends learning how to tie their shoes from her Loopeez!
My youngest daughter is developmentally delayed and we work very closely with her on her OT skills and I highly recommend Loopeez if you have a special needs child! I also recommend you purchase the two-toned laces as this helps the child distinguish between the two laces! I am happy to report that even though she doesn't tie her shoes independently she shows interest in doing it and attempts each step with instruction! This is great progress!
Loopeez can be purchased from their on-line store for $7.95 (shoelaces start at $5.95). For new product announcements, specials, and up to date news follow Loopeez on Facebook and Twitter.
