As many of you know I am all about economical options for my family but what is even more important to me is making sure that my family is using eco-friendly decisions whenever we can. I am big on the making sure that we are not wasteful and that I am eco-conscious of the carbon footprint my family leaves so we are always looking for alternatives to modern conveniences without losing the convenience part. I first read the dangers of fabric softeners when my youngest developed a rash and I thought to myself how can something that I do without even thinking can be harmful to my children. When I began reading how much toxins and chemicals are used in your average fabric softener I was disgusted. After doing research I found the chemicals found in fabric softeners are linked to cancer and brain damage- chemicals like Chloroform, Benzyl Acetate, and Ethanol which are all well known carcinogens! So why would we continue to allow those chemicals to come in contact with our children? We shouldn't! When I began researching alternatives I came across WOOLZIES and it became love at first sight!
Woolzies Dryer Balls is an all natural Fabric Softener which is proven safe for you and the environment. Made of 100% New Zealand Wool they are even safe for people with wool sensitivity. Woolzies don't just help with static and wrinkles but they have shown to cut your drying time by 25%! The first time I used Woolzies I was super excited! I couldn't wait to see if this really worked! I had already tried other people's suggestions such as rolling up a ball of aluminum but this really only helped with the static and didn't do much as far as softness and it was a pretty expensive alternative. I tried the baking soda in the wash and this did help soften the clothes but did nothing for static (I still add the baking soda to my wash even with the Woolzies because I have hard water and any little bit helps). I even tried alternative eco-friendly softeners and I wasn't always impressed with the results in comparison to the high cost. Woolzies did not let me down.. my clothes came out static free and soft. I didn't see too much of a difference in drying time but I do have an older dryer (still energy star) but older style and needs to be updated.
Woolzies really doesn't have any negatives about it except two things. First these are scent free and one of the main reasons I use fabric softener is to give my clothes those great smells. Once I read that you can add essential oils to the balls (just a few drops) I was even more sold! Now I could fix my fragrance (and mix fragrances) and pretty much made a scent for my family which is a mixture of Jasmine and Vanilla! It is subtle but strong enough to get compliments on it! The second issue is that if I accidentally take them out of the dryer (they can get wrapped up in the clothes) my dogs will rummage through the clothes to find them because they think they are their toys! Okay more of a funny problem rather than a real problem!
I recommend anyone to read up on what is in your Fabric Softener and one you do you will be researching alternatives to your laundry habits. One of them and the most economical decision is Woolzies! Woolzies can be purchased for $36.95 plus shipping (they ship WORLDWIDE!! HOLLA!) and each box comes with 6 Woolzie Laundry Balls. Woolzies can be used for hundreds upon hundreds of loads which makes it not just one of the eco-friendly choices your family will make but one of the most economical as well! You can purcahse Woolzies directly from them HERE. I recommend keeping in touch with them on Facebook and Twitter as well!
